Our season-opening concert will be a celebration of music with a Bohemian connection. Rachmaninov’s passionate, intimate and rousing Caprice Bohémien will set the scene perfectly before we welcome back virtuoso Jonathan Ellis to perform the innovative and boisterous Piano Concerto No. 1 in E flat by Hungarian composer Franz Liszt. Bohemian Moods, composed by GPO oboist Chris Irvin, follows and the concert concludes with Bohemian-born composer Martinů’s Symphony No. 1, a work of extraordinary power and beauty composed in memory of his late wife.
