Winter Concert 27

Our Winter Concert consists of works connected by fate, starting with the doomed lovers of Tchaikovsky’s symphonic fantasy Francesca da Rimini, composed in a matter of weeks.  The virtuosic fireworks of Wieniawski’s Fantasie Brillante, based upon themes from Faust, will then light up the evening before the lighter, dance-like Andromede by Augusta Holmes shows us that we don’t always have to be bound by our fate.  The concert ends with one of the most famous symphonies in the repertoire – Beethoven’s Symphony No. 5, with its instantly recognizable four-notes opening ‘fate’ motif.
