Our Polish Themed spring concert began with the folk-inspired themes of Lutoslawski’s Mala Suite, composed 75 years ago. Różycki’s recently premiered Violin Concerto, reconstructed after being discovered buried in a suitcase in his garden, followed, before Tchaikovsky’s ‘Polish’ Symphony – the composer’s least well-known but nontheless innovative symphony with recurring Polish dance rhythms prominent in the Finale – brought this concert of unusual music to a close.
