Our Summer Concert will be an evening of all-British music, starting with Four Scottish Dances by Malcolm Arnold, who died 20 years ago. Next up will be Penillion, written for the National Youth Orchestra of Wales by Welsh composer Grace Williams, born 120 years ago, before Stanford’s Irish Rhapsody No. 1, which contains the famous melody Danny Boy, delights us with traditional Irish melodies. Our 2025/2026 season will end in spectacular style with Elgar’s popular and highly-acclaimed Symphony No. 1 in A flat – the first symphony written by an English composer for two centuries.
