Rachel Stonham violin

Our Polish-themed Spring Concert begins with the folk-inspired themes of Lutoslawski’s Mala Suite, composed 75 years ago. RNCM Masters student and winner of the RNCM concerto competition in 2024 will make her debut with Gorton Philharmonic performing Różycki’s recently premièred Violin Concerto, reconstructed after being discovered buried in a suitcase in his garden after he was forced to flee the Nazis. Our concert of unusual music concludes with Tchaikovsky’s ‘Polish’ Symphony, the composer’s least well-known but nonetheless innovative symphony notable for its recurring Polish dance rhythms prominent in the Finale
