BorodinSymphony No. 2 in B minor

Juan Ortuño – conductor

John Resek – leader

Ruth Wilson – flute

Our Spring Concert focuses on composers thinking of exotica and faraway places. Rimsky-Korsakov’s high-spirited suite based on Spanish folk melodies, Capriccio Espagnol, will immediately whisk you away to  foreign climes before Gorton Philharmonic’s Principal flautist and Vice-President Ruth Wilson takes centre stage to perform Reinecke’s Flute Concerto in D, his last ever composition, which contains echoes of Brahms and Mendelssohn, yet remains a completely original work. Traditional  melodies add an air of the Far East to the evening in Holst’s Japanese Suite before Borodin’s Second Symphony, depicting Russian warriors and ancient Russian instruments, concludes this concert in wondrous style.
