Popular works inspired by America are the order of the day in our Summer Concert, beginning, appropriately enough, with Daybreak from Delius’s popular Florida Suite, composed after Delius had ended a two-year stint as manager of an orange grove in the U.S. state. Gorton Philharmonic then welcomes back multi-award-winning pianist Daniel Ropota (right) to perform Rachmaninov’s beautiful and enduring Piano Concerto No. 2 in C minor – one of the most popular classical works ever written. Our 2022/2023 season ends with Dvořák’s most well-known work, his Symphony No. 9 ‘From the New World’ symphony, written 130 years ago during a three-year stay in America.
