The opening concert of our 2024/2025 season will feature Gorton Philharmonic’s Principal cellist, Alison Burns, performing Bruch’s Jewish-inspired Kol Nidrei in an evening of music with a dance theme, beginning with the fiery and energetic ballet music from Holst’s one-act opera The Perfect Fool. The first half will conclude with all the merriment of Midsummer Eve dancing and singing in Hugo Alfvén’s Swedish Rhapsody No. 1 ‘Midsommarvaka’. The concert will end with the last major composition written by Sergei Rachmaninov, his Symphonic Dances, in which he expresses his nostalgia for the Russia he’d known before emigrating to the U.S.
